Gold's Gym
February 6th, 2008,The First Wednesday Art Walk in Downtown Jacksonville is a program developed and promoted by Downtown Vision, Inc. to bring citizens to the historical and cultural center of the city and to highlight Jacksonville’s deep pool of creative talent.

There are many venues serving as galleries that feature local, original work. All locations are approximately within a 6 block radius of one another. This is the 3rd year, and 6th showing I've had at the ArtWalk. I chose Gold's Gym (and they me) for a few of reasons - one is because of the space. Downstairs had lots of wall space and a fantastic window facing the street which was perfect because I wanted to do a "live" painting for the event. Gold's Gym is also located right next door to the bank building which is the starting point of the ArtWalk, lastly, I happen to be a member of the Gym.

Each gallery has an independent curator and features local, original artwork. From the works of distinguished artists at MOCA Jacksonville to small working artist communities like the Art Center Cooperative. There’s something to please everyone at the First Wednesday Art Walk. Since each gallery is independently managed, the features will vary. Many galleries provide beverages, food, live music, or a combination. Most provide wine - which makes this outing particularly fun (not that you can't have fun without drinking), but what better way than to enjoy artwork, artists and downtown than to walk around sipping on a nice glass of wine. Warning - there are lots of venues, pace yourself and drink responsibly. ; ) You can start the walk at any of the announced galleries. If you are a first-timer, we suggest starting at Art Walk headquarters at 100 N. Laura (corner of Laura and Forsyth), MOCA Jacksonville, or The Jacksonville Landing. You can pick up a map at most venues are dowload a PDF version from the Downtown Vision, Inc website (click the link for Play).
