The Eyes Have It

Eyes of Color

There is something uniquely special about the eyes of non-Caucasian’s, especially our African-American friends. Perhaps it’s because they’ve had to overcome so many obstacles in their life’s journey. Economic and racial discrimination are a few stumbling blocks they may have encountered in their lifetime. Even in this century we want to believe those things no longer exist, but the fact is they do. It is in their eyes we often see the strength of dignity and the pain of endurance.

Daughters

Though I do not have any daughters of my own, I have been very fortunate in my life to be invited to share in the lives of others who do. Those friends, women friends to be exact, who have daughters, have allowed me to share that experience with them. This, of course, could never take the place of being a “full-time” father, but it has given me the opportunity to be a “surrogate father.” As a result of these experiences, one thing is certain…if I had a 16-year old daughter today, I would surely keep her locked away until a suitable prince charming asked me for her hand in marriage! There is something uniquely special about daughters and fathers. It seems that, from the time they are born, they possess an innate ability to wrap their fathers around their little fingers and with the slightest glance from those loving eyes, melt their heart.

Theatre

If looks could kill, surely many audiences would have become a mass grave for the dearly departed. I’ve been lucky enough to take part in many stage productions. Being an artist, whether on canvas, film or on stage, I’ve had the privilege to photograph many stage actors and actresses who can captivate and mesmerize an audience with a single look.

Wisdom

No matter what the age, from birth to old age, the eyes can tell you more about the souls behind them than any conversation ever could. Even if you don’t believe in reincarnation there are some eyes that reveal a wealth of knowledge and experience beyond their years, what is referred to as an “old soul.”
